About Dan
Dan Coutu is a professional piano and guitar instructor with over 20 years teaching experience in the Needham MA area. Lessons are available to children of all ages as well as advanced instruction for both piano and guitar players. He also performs all over New England as a keyboardist with different bands on a regular basis.
Daniel J. Coutu graduated with honors from Berklee College of Music, with a BA in Music Synthesis. He continued studies in Jazz Piano under the famous Charlie Banacos for many years. Mr. Coutu is an accomplished musician and teacher.
Dan has played piano since the age of six. In his school years he did chorus, brass instruments, and drums, playing in concert band, chorus, jazz band marching band, and rock bands. Dan dedicated himself to piano, playing classical, jazz, and rock music. Later in life he added guitar to his instruments as well, studying classical with a renowned teacher and learning other styles as well.
For two decades, Daniel Coutu has provided piano and guitar lessons to families from Needham and adjacent towns. Dan places an emphasis on fundamentals, music reading, and rhythm, but will also change the method as needed to keep his students motivated and playing music they like. With a focus on student success, Dan tailors his lesson plans to meet the needs of each student, often pulling material from a range of genres - including classical, folk songs, rock, pop, and jazz - to engage and motivate students.
Dan currently teaches in Needham where he lives with his wife Clary and three children, Anthony, Natalia, and Nate.
